Put the Shackles on the Government
Daily Article: Thursday, November 20, 2008 by Adam MurdockIn our society we have grown comfortable with the idea of letting the government take care of us. In essence, the government has become our "lender of last resort" much like the Federal Reserve is the "lender of last resort" for the banks.
This shift in thinking is demonstrated by the mere fact that multitudes of businesses and institutions are clamoring for government bailouts after they got caught with their figuritive pants down. Now that their bad business practices have been exposed they are not willing to take the fall but want the rest of us to take the fall for them. They want to remove their shackles and put them square on the shoulders of the people.
What would the founders think of this predicament? The founders knew that the greatest danger to the peoples freedom lie with government. That is why Jefferson said that the government should neither restrict nor aid the people in their business persuits. In other words people should live and die by the fruits of their own efforts. They understood that if the government became involved in business it would be for the profit of a few special interest groups and come at the expense of the people.
Now that the tide has already turned, our only recourse is to reapply the shackles on the government before it is too late. It is time we came together to say "enough is enough."
